The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iranian officials have condemned remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump in support of Iranian protesters, describing them as interference in Iran’s internal affairs and an act of adventurism.
Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said in a post on X on Friday, Jan. 2, that comments by Trump and Israeli officials had revealed what he called the “backstage” of recent developments.
“With the positions taken by Israeli officials and Trump, the behind-the-scenes of the matter has become clear,” Larijani wrote. “We distinguish the positions of protesting shopkeepers from destructive elements.”
Larijani warned that U.S. involvement in what he described as Iran’s internal issue could destabilize “the entire region” and undermine U.S. interests.
Trump had earlier responded to the recent protests in Iran by saying the United States was prepared to act if protesters were fired upon or killed violently. He emphasized that Washington would intervene should violence against demonstrators continue.
Protests erupted in Iran earlier this week following a rise in the dollar’s exchange rate and increasing prices. Demonstrations in several cities have since turned violent, according to reports.
