The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban say construction has begun on two major health projects worth about 90 million Afghanis at the Zabul Provincial Hospital.
Taliban officials from the Ministry of Public Health said the projects include two newly built two- and three-story buildings with a combined capacity of 150 beds. The facilities are expected to be completed and become operational within one year.
Sharafat Zaman, the Taliban spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, said in a post on X that, in addition to these projects, 48 million Afghanis have been allocated this year for the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals and health centers in Zabul. He added that the staffing and capacity of the provincial hospital have been expanded from 100 beds to 300 beds.
The developments come as residents in several provinces continue to complain about shortages of doctors, medicines and medical equipment, as well as a decline in health services.
International organizations have repeatedly warned that following the Taliban’s return to power and the subsequent reduction in global aid, Afghanistan’s health sector is facing a severe lack of financial resources, posing serious challenges to the delivery of basic health services to the population.
