The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban officials in western Afghanistan say the governor of Herat has met with a technical delegation from Iran’s national railway to discuss improving operations and increasing use of the Herat–Khaf railway line.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Taliban-run Herat
governor’s office said a technical team from the Islamic Republic of Iran
Railways, led by Morteza Jafari, the railway’s deputy for commercial affairs
and operations, met with Taliban-appointed Herat Governor Sheikh Maulana Noor
Ahmad Islamjar. The meeting was attended by heads of public works, the chamber
of commerce and investment, and the departments of industry and mines.
According to the statement, the Iranian delegation shared a
report on its monitoring of improvement works along the Herat–Khaf railway and
called for cooperation from local authorities to help implement planned
activities and facilitate greater use of the line.
The statement said Islamjar assured the delegation of the
local administration’s cooperation in resolving existing challenges and
stressed the need to increase effective use of the railway, boost the volume of
goods transported and ease transit procedures.
Both sides emphasized expanding technical and operational
cooperation, improving coordination among relevant institutions and maximizing
the capacity of the Herat–Khaf railway as an important transit and trade
corridor, the statement said.
