The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban officials in Ghazni say work has begun on a project to widen a section of the Kabul–Kandahar highway in the provincial capital at a cost of 250 million afghanis.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Taliban governor’s
media office said the project involves expanding a 15-kilometer stretch of the
highway inside Ghazni city and is being implemented by the city municipality.
According to the statement, once completed, the current
two-lane road will be expanded into four lanes on both sides of the highway
within the city limits.
Municipal officials said during the launch ceremony that the
project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and help lower the number of
traffic accidents in Ghazni city.
The Kabul–Kandahar highway is one of Afghanistan’s main
transport routes, connecting the capital with southern provinces and playing a
key role in trade and travel.
