The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban say more than 163,000 metric tons of goods were transported by rail across Afghanistan over the past week, highlighting continued activity at key border crossings and rail routes.
Ashraf Haqshinas, a spokesperson for the Taliban Ministry of
Public Works, said in a post on X that a total of 163,437 metric tons of oil,
non-oil and other commercial goods were moved by rail during the week.
According to Haqshinas, 117,213 tons were transported
through the Hairatan port, 13,304 tons via Aqina, 18,838 tons through Torghundi
and 14,082 tons along the Khaf–Herat railway line.
He said a portion of the shipments consisted of exports,
totaling 202 tons, most of which was pomegranate juice.
Haqshinas said increased rail-based transport and exports
help create job opportunities, boost national revenue and contribute to overall
economic stability and self-reliance. He added that the Taliban Ministry of
Public Works is working to improve conditions for higher transport volumes and
to provide facilities for traders in order to accelerate the movement of
commercial goods by rail.
