The Kabul Tribune (KT) - The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) says it is launching an innovative financial and training initiative to strengthen the ability of Afghan returnees to start small businesses.
On Wednesday, December 10, UNHCR announced that it had signed an agreement with the First MicroFinance Bank–Afghanistan (FMFB-A). Under this partnership, returnees will receive microloans along with business training to help them establish and expand their livelihoods.
In its official statement, UNHCR wrote: “UNHCR and FMFB-A signed an agreement for an innovative project to give returnees microloans & trainings to start and grow their own businesses. With support from the Delegation of the European Union to Afghanistan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), 3,300 returnees will be empowered to be agents of economic recovery in Afghanistan.”
The agency noted that, with backing from the European Union and JICA, 3,300 returnees will be equipped to take on a more active role in Afghanistan’s economic recovery.
This comes as Iran and Pakistan have intensified the forced deportation of Afghan migrants in recent months.
