KT - Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan,
Mohammad Sadiq Khan, is set to visit Iran in the coming days at the invitation
of Tehran, sources said Friday. He is expected to meet Iranian officials to
discuss situations in Afghanistan.
The trip comes amid fluctuating relations
between Pakistan and the Taliban, driven by rising insecurity in Pakistan’s
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Islamabad has accused the Taliban
of providing safe haven to militants from the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), charges
the Taliban have consistently denied, saying they have no ties to any terrorist
groups and will prevent Afghan soil from being used against neighboring
countries.
This comes that Khan recently met with Albert
Khurif, Russia’s ambassador for Pakistan in Islamabad, to discuss regional
security and the presence of militant groups in Afghanistan.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq
Dar, warned that more than 20 terrorist groups operate from Afghan territory,
some of which maintain links with al-Qaeda.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts with regional partners to address security concerns stemming from Afghanistan.
