The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban have closed 73 money exchange shops in Helmand province for operating without licenses, local sources said.
The closures affected 25 shops in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah and 48 in Gereshk district, with authorities beginning enforcement last Wednesday, the sources said.
The Helmand Department of Information and Culture confirmed that 38 shops in Gereshk were shut for lacking legal permits.
The Taliban have been issuing licenses to exchange shops over the past two years. To obtain a license, each shop must deposit 13 million Afghanis ($165,000) with the Taliban administration as a guarantee.
