The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with U.N. Undersecretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo to discuss humanitarian assistance, the needs of returning Afghan migrants and cooperation between the Taliban administration and the United Nations, the Taliban Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
The ministry said the Oct. 3 meeting also covered the
sustainable reintegration of returnees, climate change, water issues and
regional developments.
The two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation
through the Doha Process, a series of international meetings focused on
Afghanistan, and emphasized the need for initiatives that produce practical
results, according to the statement.
The ministry said the meeting also addressed reporting and
assessments on Afghanistan, stressing the importance of accurate information
and reliable sources.
Concerns about civilian casualties in Pakistani airstrikes
inside Afghanistan were also raised, the statement said. The two sides
emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and preventing further harm.
The meeting comes amid continuing humanitarian needs in
Afghanistan and tensions between Kabul and Islamabad over Pakistan’s
allegations that militant groups use Afghan territory to launch attacks. The
Taliban authorities deny providing safe haven to militants targeting Pakistan.
