The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Technical teams from Emirates have made several visits to Kabul in recent days to discuss and assess the possible resumption of direct flights between the Afghan capital and Dubai, Taliban-affiliated media reported.

Bakhtar News Agency reported that the Emirates teams held talks with Taliban officials and conducted technical and operational assessments related to restarting the flights.

The airline is expected to resume its Kabul-Dubai service after the assessments are completed, according to the report. Emirates has not officially announced a date for the resumption of the flights.

A restart would give Afghan travelers access through Dubai International Airport to Emirates' extensive international flight network.

Emirates suspended flights to Afghanistan in 2021 following the Taliban's return to power.

Several airlines currently operate flights to Kabul, including Afghanistan's domestic carriers as well as Flydubai, Etihad Airways and Turkish Airlines.

The reported talks come as Afghanistan seeks to expand international air connections after years of limited commercial aviation links following the Taliban takeover.
