The Kabul Tribune (KT)—Pakistani security forces killed 10 militants in separate operations in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between Sept. 15 and 17, while six soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device struck a security convoy, the military said Thursday.
The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations,
said six militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation in North
Waziristan after security forces received information about their presence in
the area.
In a separate clash in Hangu district, four militants were
killed, the military said.
On Sept. 17, an IED struck a security forces convoy, killing
six soldiers, according to the military.
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from
the militants killed in the operations and alleged that they had been involved
in terrorist activities in the area.
Separately, security forces killed three militants in an
intelligence-based operation in the Badrang area of Balochistan’s Awaran
district, according to security sources.
The sources said weapons and ammunition were recovered from
the militants, whom they described using the Pakistani government’s term “Fitna
al-Hindustan.”
Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant violence in
recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Pakistani
authorities have accused militant groups of operating from neighboring
Afghanistan, while Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have denied allowing
Afghan territory to be used against other countries.
