The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gov. Faisal Karim Kundi called for providing the provincial police with modern weapons, advanced technology and additional resources to strengthen the fight against terrorism, saying the force faces extraordinary security challenges.

Kundi made the remarks during a meeting with a 33-member delegation of deputy superintendents of police from Sindh who were visiting the Governor House as part of a study tour from the National Police Academy. The delegation was led by Course Commander Muhammad Aurangzeb.

Kundi welcomed the visiting officers and praised the growing participation of women in Pakistan’s police services.

He said policing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa differs from other provinces because of the persistent threat of terrorism. The provincial police have remained on the front line in the fight against militants but need modern weapons, additional bulletproof vehicles and advanced technology to respond to emerging threats, including attacks involving militant-operated quadcopters, he said.

Kundi said recommendations had been submitted to the provincial government to improve police salaries.

The governor also highlighted the security challenges posed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s long border with Afghanistan. He said the Pakistani army and Frontier Corps were playing an important role in securing the border and called for full support for all law enforcement agencies involved in counterterrorism efforts.

Responding to a question from the delegation, Kundi said attacks against Pakistan originating from Afghan territory were unacceptable.

He also said there was evidence of the involvement of some Afghan nationals in terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals was continuing.

Kundi said strengthening law enforcement agencies with adequate resources and modern equipment was essential to addressing the province’s evolving security threats and maintaining peace.
