The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Ariana Afghan Airlines has transported to Kabul an aircraft engine valued at $2.3 million that had been delayed in the United States because of customs procedures, the airline said on Sunday.

The Ariana Afghan Airlines said in a post on X that the engine had been cleared after the completion of the relevant customs procedures in the United States and transported to Kabul.

The engine was purchased from U.S.-based company Global Engine and is intended for Ariana’s Delta Boeing 737 aircraft, according to information provided by the airline. The aircraft has been grounded for more than two years.

Ariana’s technical team will install the engine on the Boeing 737 after its arrival in Kabul, paving the way for the aircraft to undergo the necessary technical procedures before potentially returning to service.

“Very soon, the Delta plane, which has been grounded for over two years, will, inshallah, become operational again and resume flights,” the company said.

The return of the engine is being viewed by Ariana as an important step toward strengthening the technical and operational capacity of its aircraft fleet. The airline’s leadership is also working to accelerate the procurement and delivery of technical parts and equipment and ensure the conditions needed for aircraft operations.

The company did not provide a specific date for the Boeing 737’s return to service.

Ariana Afghan Airlines, Afghanistan’s national carrier, has faced operational challenges in recent years, including difficulties in obtaining aircraft parts and equipment. The airline has sought to strengthen its fleet and restore aircraft to service as it works to expand and maintain its operations.
