The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Peshawar High Court has temporarily halted the deportation of two Afghan journalists and a former Afghan army general, directing Pakistan's Interior Ministry to decide within two months whether they can remain in the country, according to Pakistani media reports.

The ruling applies to former Afghan army Gen. Mohammad Naveed Omari and journalists Sayed Enamullah Salehi and Sayed Munir Ahmad Hadaf, Pakistan Today reported Wednesday.

According to the report, the three petitioners told the court they face threats to their lives if they are returned to Afghanistan and requested permission to remain in Pakistan for two months.

The case was heard by a two-judge bench of the Peshawar High Court, which referred the matter to the Interior Ministry for a decision on their residency applications.

The court also reserved its ruling on separate petitions filed by several former Afghan government and security officials, including a former Afghan Supreme Court judge and a number of retired army generals, seeking protection from deportation.

Pakistan has accelerated the deportation of undocumented foreigners, including Afghans, since launching a nationwide repatriation campaign in late 2023. Human rights organizations have raised concerns that some Afghans, particularly former government officials, security personnel and journalists, could face persecution if returned under Taliban rule.
