The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Construction has begun on a road project worth AFN 21 million in eastern Afghanistan's Khost Province, the Taliban municipality said on Saturday.
According to municipal officials, the Mardikhel Road project will extend 1.7 kilometers and includes the construction of 3.4 kilometers of drainage canals along both sides of the road, as well as three culverts.
Speaking at the project's inauguration ceremony, Khost Mayor Abdul Rashid Omari said additional road construction projects are planned across the province during 2026, with work expected to begin in the coming months.
The announcement comes a day after authorities launched another road construction project worth AFN 30 million in Pul-e Alam, the capital of Logar Province.
Road construction and rehabilitation projects have continued across several parts of Afghanistan in recent years, with officials saying they are intended to improve urban transportation, expand the country's road network, and ease daily travel for residents.
