The Kabul Tribune (KT) — More than 53,000 women received maternal healthcare services at midwife-led maternity centers in Afghanistan's Kabul and Logar provinces during the first six months of the year, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said Wednesday.
In a post on X, UNFPA said the two maternity centers, supported by funding from the European Union, provide women-centered care that focuses on women's choices, needs and comfort.
The U.N. agency said the facilities provided healthcare services to more than 53,000 women between January and June.
During the same period, more than 4,000 safe deliveries were carried out at the centers, according to UNFPA.
The agency said the midwife-led centers are designed to improve access to quality maternal healthcare and promote safe childbirth for women in Afghanistan, where access to reproductive and maternal health services remains limited in many areas.
