The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan cricket captain Hashmatullah Shahidi has resigned from his leadership role, saying the decision was made for personal reasons.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Shahidi said it
had been a great honor to captain the national team and thanked players,
coaches and cricket officials for their support during his tenure.
Shahidi said the team achieved numerous successes through
the collective efforts of players, coaches and management.
He also expressed gratitude to Afghanistan's cricket fans,
his family and close friends for standing by him throughout his time as
captain. He apologized for any shortcomings during his leadership.
Although stepping down as captain, Shahidi said he will
continue representing Afghanistan as a committed player and will keep working
to help the team succeed.
He said he hopes the national team will enjoy even greater
success under its next captain.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has not yet announced
Shahidi's successor.
