The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said U.S. forces have completed a new round of strikes against Iranian military targets.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation was carried out at 9 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time and targeted Iranian military command centers, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems.

According to the statement, the strikes were intended to further degrade Iran's ability to continue attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM said commercial shipping through the strategic waterway has continued despite heightened regional tensions.

The command also claimed that since early May, U.S. forces have facilitated the safe passage of approximately 900 commercial vessels and the transit of nearly 450 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM added that U.S. forces remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to what it described as "Iran's unprovoked and aggressive actions against civilian mariners."

The latest strikes come amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the Gulf region, where the security of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has become a central point of confrontation between the two countries.
