The Kabul Tribune (KT) — An Afghan citizen and an Iranian national were executed in Iran on Sunday after being convicted in connection with protests held in the country during the winter of 2025–2026, according to the human rights organization Hengaw.

Hengaw reported that Erfan Esfandiyari and Gol Mohammad Mohammadi, an Afghan citizen, were executed at dawn in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

According to the organization, the executions were carried out secretly in connection with the case known as the "Alikhani Square of Malek Shahr" case.

Hengaw also warned that 10 other defendants linked to the same case face an imminent risk of execution.

The reported executions come as human rights organizations say the Iranian government has accelerated the implementation of death sentences—particularly in cases related to anti-government protests—following its crackdown on demonstrations during the winter of 2025–2026 and amid military strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran.
