The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Australia has extended its multi-year humanitarian partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) through 2028, a senior U.N. official said Friday.
Indrika Ratwatte, Acting U.N. Assistant Secretary-General
for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, announced the
extension following a meeting with Australia's Chargé d'Affaires ad interim,
Beth Delaney.
"Australia is a key humanitarian partner,"
Ratwatte said in a post on X. He said the meeting focused on extending OCHA's
multi-year partnership with Australia through 2028.
According to Ratwatte, the two officials also discussed
strengthening anticipatory humanitarian action, promoting disability-inclusive
emergency responses and ensuring continued Australian support for U.N.-managed
humanitarian pooled funds.
Australia has been a longstanding donor to humanitarian
operations worldwide, including responses to crises driven by conflict, natural
disasters and displacement. OCHA coordinates international humanitarian
assistance and manages pooled funding mechanisms that support relief operations
in some of the world's most vulnerable regions.
