The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces have carried out a new round of air and naval strikes against Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and along Iran's coastline.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation began at 10 p.m. Eastern Time and lasted about seven hours, targeting dozens of military sites, including missile and drone positions, naval capabilities, and Iran's coastal defense systems.
According to the statement, U.S. fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels used precision-guided munitions during the operation.
CENTCOM said the strikes were intended to reduce Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian maritime traffic in the region.
The command also announced that the operation coincided with the resumption of a naval blockade targeting vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas. According to CENTCOM, the blockade took effect at 4 p.m. Eastern Time on the same day.
The statement added that U.S. forces remain on full alert and are prepared to carry out any additional orders from the President of the United States.
The latest strikes come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, as the United States has increased military and maritime pressure on Iran in recent days.
Iran has not yet issued an official response to the reported strikes.
