The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works has signed a contract worth 1.25 billion afghanis (AFN), equivalent to around $17.7 million, with a private company for the reconstruction of the South Salang road, with work expected to begin in the near future.
According to the ministry, the project includes the construction of a 15-kilometer road, 12 meters wide, stretching from the Olang area toward Jabal Saraj district in Parwan province.
The plan also covers the construction of five new culverts, the expansion of 33 existing ones, and the development of a 600-meter drainage canal.
During the signing ceremony, Taliban Public Works Minister Mohammad Issa Sani urged the contracted company to complete the project on time and in accordance with required standards.
The ministry added that reconstruction work from the Salang Tunnel to the Olang area is already underway, with concrete works completed and remaining tasks expected to be finalized soon.
The Salang highway is one of Afghanistan’s most important transit routes, and its rehabilitation is expected to play a key role in facilitating trade and transportation across the country.
