The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works said freight transported via Afghanistan’s railway network reached 7,602,419 metric tons in 2023, marking a 77.9% increase compared to 2022.
According to the ministry, 36,119 metric tons of the total shipments were exports, including dried fruits, rice, mineral stones, potatoes, pomegranate juice, and vegetable seeds. The remainder consisted of imported petroleum and non-petroleum goods.
The ministry said the shipments were transported through the Hairatan, Aqina, Torghundi, and Khaf-Herat railway routes.
The statement added that since the Taliban’s return to power, efforts have intensified to expand railway-based trade and strengthen rail connectivity with neighboring countries.
