The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Two young men have died after drowning in the Mahipar area of Kabul province, Taliban authorities said.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s 313 Central Corps, the incident occurred a day earlier when the victims had traveled from Kabul city to the area for recreation.
The statement said the young men drowned while taking photographs near a large body of water. One of them fell into the water, and the second attempted to rescue him, but both lost their lives.
Their bodies were later recovered by personnel from the third brigade in Sarobi and handed over to their families.
Authorities said a group of youths had visited the area for leisure when the incident occurred.
Similar incidents have been reported in recent months across Afghanistan, with dozens of people losing their lives while swimming in rivers and deep waters.
Taliban officials have repeatedly urged the public, especially young people, to avoid swimming in or approaching deep and dangerous waters.
