The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Jagan Chapagain, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has highlighted worsening humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan following his visit to the country.
In a post on X, Chapagain said he witnessed widespread challenges, including displaced families, collapsing livelihoods, and increasing climate-related pressures, with women and children bearing the heaviest burden.
He stressed that despite these hardships, there are signs of hope, pointing to the efforts of Afghan Red Crescent volunteers and IFRC teams supporting communities across the country.
Chapagain called for stronger health systems, improved shelter, and greater support for vulnerable populations, warning that urgent action is needed to prevent conditions from deteriorating further.
He also urged sustained international solidarity, saying the IFRC network is ready to expand its efforts but requires greater global support.
The remarks come as Afghanistan continues to face overlapping humanitarian crises driven by economic instability, climate shocks, and prolonged conflict.
