The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban authorities have approved the construction of a commercial market in northern Afghanistan’s Jawzjan province at an estimated cost of 23 million afghanis (about $330,000).

The Taliban’s Economic Deputy Office of the Prime Minister said the project was endorsed during a meeting of the inter-ministerial investment committee after review and assessment.

According to a statement, the market will be built on municipal land in Sheberghan city by the private sector. The three-story complex is expected to include 54 shops.

Officials also said the committee discussed a separate proposal to construct a residential and commercial market along Darulaman Road in Kabul’s District 7. The plan has been referred to relevant authorities for technical and financial evaluation, with findings to be presented at a future meeting.

Similar commercial market projects have already been launched in several provinces, many of which have been completed and put into operation, the statement added.
