The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Nearly 500 migrant families have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran, the Taliban-run commission for addressing migrant issues said.

In a statement, the commission reported that 488 families, comprising 2,226 individuals, entered Afghanistan on Saturday through various border crossings.

According to Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban’s deputy spokesperson, 460 families returned via the Torkham crossing, 22 through Spin Boldak, three through the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz, and three via Islam Qala in Herat.

The commission added that 579 families were transported to their home provinces, while 602 others received cash assistance.

In addition, hundreds of families were provided with SIM cards, and some received health care, food aid, and public awareness services.

The development comes amid a sharp rise in the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan in recent years. Authorities in both countries have said that all undocumented Afghan migrants must return.

Taliban officials have said they are managing the return process in an organized manner.
