The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Organization of Islamic Cooperation Special Envoy
for Afghanistan, Tariq Ali Bakhit, said the country needs sustained
international attention and urgent measures to ease humanitarian suffering and
stabilize its fragile economy.
Speaking at a coordination group meeting on Afghanistan held
in Istanbul from April 28 to April 30, 2026, Bakhit called for the continuation
of humanitarian assistance, particularly in food security and healthcare.
He also stressed the need for coordinated easing of restrictions
on banking channels and the provision of alternative livelihoods to support
vulnerable families and prevent further economic decline.
Bakhit highlighted the role of key OIC institutions and
partners, including the Islamic Development Bank, the Islamic Organization for
Food Security, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in
supporting early recovery programs.
He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continued
engagement and cooperation with international stakeholders to promote stability
and support Afghanistan’s recovery.
