The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Ireland’s parliament is set to review the human rights situation in Afghanistan, with a focus on women’s rights, employment challenges and worsening humanitarian conditions.
The Oireachtas said its Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs
and Trade will hold a session on Tuesday at Leinster House to examine
conditions in Afghanistan, particularly the treatment of women and girls.
Participants are expected to include Richard Bennett, along
with Afghan human rights advocates.
Irish officials said conditions in Afghanistan have
significantly deteriorated since August 2021, citing widespread restrictions
imposed by the Taliban, including bans on education for girls beyond primary
school, severe limits on employment and restrictions on freedom of movement and
public participation.
The session is expected to assess ongoing challenges and
highlight concerns over human rights conditions across the country.
