The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Lawmakers in the United States House of Representatives have blocked a Democratic effort to limit President Donald Trump’s war powers over military operations against Iran, according to Reuters.
Republican members halted the initiative during a brief procedural session, preventing a vote on a resolution that would have required congressional authorization to continue U.S. military actions.
The move reflects ongoing partisan divisions over presidential war authority, as Democrats continue to push for legislative checks on the use of force in Iran and other foreign operations.
While largely symbolic, the blocked resolution was part of repeated Democratic efforts in recent months to rein in executive military authority. Similar measures have failed in both the House and Senate.
Democratic lawmakers said they will continue to bring forward war powers resolutions after Congress returns from recess, arguing that legislative approval is required for sustained military engagement.
The White House maintains that the president’s actions are within constitutional authority as commander-in-chief to conduct limited military operations for national security purposes.
