The Kabul Tribune (KT) - Dozens of Democratic lawmakers have called for the removal of U.S. President Donald Trump, raising concerns about his mental fitness after he threatened to destroy “a whole civilization” in Iran.

More than 70 Democrats across Congress urged action, suggesting either impeachment or invoking the 25th Amendment, which allows a president to be removed from power if deemed unfit to carry out official duties.

Representative Joaquin Castro said the president is “not fit to lead,” while Representative Sara Jacobs warned that Trump’s statements could amount to serious violations of international law.

Senator Chuck Schumer and other senior Democrats cautioned that targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran—such as water and power systems—could constitute a war crime and undermine American values.

Prominent figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, were among those supporting calls for action.

The backlash intensified after Trump issued a deadline for Iran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz or face potential military strikes.

However, shortly before the deadline, Trump announced that the United States and Iran had agreed to a temporary ceasefire, easing immediate fears of escalation.

Despite the pause, Democratic lawmakers warned that the president’s rhetoric could deepen tensions and risk a broader conflict in the region.
