The Kabul Tribune (KT) - Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, said in an open letter to the people of the United States that ongoing war and regional tensions stem from the policies of Washington and Tel Aviv, adding that the crisis can only be resolved by recognizing Iran’s legitimate rights.

In the letter, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran’s recent military actions were conducted within the framework of legitimate self-defense and were solely intended to safeguard the country’s security.

He added that attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran’s critical infrastructure, including energy and industrial facilities, have directly impacted civilians and led to significant humanitarian and economic consequences.

The Iranian president also reviewed the history of relations between the two countries, referring to events such as the 1953 Iranian coup d'état, Washington’s support for the Shah’s government, backing of Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War, the imposition of extensive sanctions, and what he described as “unjustified” military actions. He said these developments have contributed to deep mistrust among the Iranian people toward U.S. policies.

Addressing the American public, Pezeshkian asked: “Exactly which interests of the American people are truly being served by this war? Was there any real threat from Iran to justify such actions?” He urged them to look beyond propaganda and misinformation and to consider the realities of life for ordinary Iranians.

The letter comes amid rising regional tensions, as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation continue.
