The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that Islamabad will host upcoming talks between the United States and Iran, underscoring Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue amid rising regional tensions.
Dar made the announcement in a televised message following a meeting with foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt in Islamabad. The consultations marked the second round of a four-nation dialogue, following an earlier session in Riyadh on March 19, 2026.
He said both Tehran and Washington have expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to facilitate the negotiations. “Pakistan’s leadership, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighted its role in facilitating potential negotiations between the United States and Iran, with both sides expressing confidence in Islamabad as a mediator,” Dar said.
The foreign minister emphasized that the deteriorating regional security situation makes urgent dialogue essential to resolving conflicts. He added that the participating countries reaffirmed their commitment to diplomacy, respect for sovereignty under the UN Charter, and unity within the Muslim world.
Dar further noted that Pakistan’s peace initiative has received backing from China and the United Nations, aiming to de-escalate tensions and promote long-term regional stability.
