The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Thousands of returnees crossing into Afghanistan each day at Islam Qala are being screened for tuberculosis (TB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said.
According to UNDP Afghanistan, between 6,000 and 7,000
returnees cross the Islam Qala border daily, where health teams are conducting
TB screenings.
The organization said tuberculosis remains a major public
health challenge in Afghanistan, with 203 cases reported per 100,000 people in
2025.
UNDP, in coordination with the Global Fund, said more than
650,000 people were tested for TB last year, while over 50,000 patients
received support and treatment.
