The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Works has announced that construction work on a 60-kilometer road connecting Chak and Daimirdad districts in Maidan Wardak Province will begin in the near future.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, wrote Thursday on X that the contract for the project has been awarded to a private company at a cost of 2.04 billion Afghanis, and construction is expected to start soon.

According to Haqshenas, the project also includes the construction of several related structures along the route, such as culverts and other supporting infrastructure.

The road is considered strategically important for Maidan Wardak, as it will link Daimirdad District with Chak District. Officials say that once completed, the project will significantly improve transportation, facilitate trade and ease travel for residents of both districts.

Infrastructure development, particularly road construction, has been identified by the Taliban authorities as a priority sector aimed at improving connectivity between rural and urban areas and boosting local economic activity.
