The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Supreme Court said 14 people, including eight women, were flogged in Kabul on charges of “illicit relations, adultery and procuring.”
In a statement issued Wednesday, the court said a Taliban primary court in Kabul sentenced each of the individuals to between 25 and 35 lashes, as well as prison terms ranging from five months to one year. The statement did not specify the exact date of the punishment but said the ruling was carried out after approval by the Supreme Court.
The Taliban regularly announce the implementation of corporal punishments, including floggings, for individuals accused of various offenses.
Over the past four years, the practice has repeatedly drawn criticism from human rights organizations and members of the international community.
