The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Da Afghanistan Bank under Taliban administration said it has destroyed 588.14 million Afghanis in worn-out banknotes after collecting them from the market in Kabul.

In a statement issued Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, Da Afghanistan Bank said the old banknotes were burned in Kabul’s Deh Sabz district in accordance with banking procedures and as part of efforts to facilitate monetary transactions.

The destroyed notes included denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 Afghanis, the statement said.

According to the bank, the move was aimed at easing economic transactions by replacing damaged banknotes with new ones.

Officials said the bank remains committed to continuously collecting unfit and worn-out notes from circulation and replacing them with new banknotes to ensure smooth daily transactions for citizens.
