The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said authorities have banned the broadcasting of images of living beings for journalists in Kapisa province, marking a further restriction on media operations in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued one hour earlier, RSF said the ban has now affected 24 of the country’s 34 provinces since the 2024 law on the “promotion of virtue and the prevention of vice” came into force.

According to RSF, the restrictions have forced dozens of television channels to either shut down or convert into radio stations.

The media watchdog said press freedom and journalist safety — particularly for women journalists — have significantly deteriorated since the Taliban takeover of the country. It added that media outlets are now required to broadcast information controlled by the authorities, leaving the media landscape without pluralism or dissenting voices.

RSF said repression against journalists has steadily intensified and called on the Taliban’s supreme leader to immediately lift all bans restricting press freedom.

The organization also urged the international community to take action against what it described as ongoing media repression in Afghanistan.
