The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Afghanistan Journalists Center (AJC) said the Taliban’s Department for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has issued a new order prohibiting the publication of live images in Kapisa province.
In a statement Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, the group said the directive has turned Kapisa’s national television under Taliban control into a radio-only outlet, while the operations of private media outlets have been further restricted.
According to AJC, Kapisa is now the 25th province where the Taliban have formally enforced a ban on live broadcasts.
The statement expressed serious concern that the expansion of such restrictions is undermining public access to information, freedom of expression, and news reporting, and warned it could lead to further media closures and widespread unemployment among journalists.
Provinces already affected by similar bans include Kandahar, Takhar, Badghis, Helmand, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Farah, Nimroz, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Jowzjan, Zabul, Parwan, Kunduz, Bamyan, Daikundi, Faryab, Panjshir, Laghman, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Herat, Paktia, and Uruzgan, the statement added.
