The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban Supreme Court says four people, including one woman, were flogged in Afghanistan’s Maidan Wardak and Badakhshan provinces after being convicted on charges the Taliban described as “illicit relations” and “adultery.”
In a statement released Thursday, Jan. 7, 2025, the Taliban Supreme Court said a Taliban primary court in Maidan Wardak sentenced three defendants — including a woman — to prison terms ranging from four months to 12 years. According to the statement, each of the three was also sentenced to between 30 and 39 lashes, a punishment carried out after approval by the Taliban Supreme Court.
In a separate statement, the Taliban Supreme Court said a Taliban primary court in Badakhshan province sentenced another individual to one year in prison and 39 lashes on charges of what the Taliban called adultery.
Over the past more than four years, the Taliban have repeatedly sentenced individuals to corporal punishment and imprisonment on various charges, with sentences often carried out publicly.
