The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban authorities say a man has been publicly flogged in Faryab province after being convicted of what they described as “violating privacy.”
The Taliban-run Supreme Court said in a statement on Wednesday, Dec. 24, that the punishment was carried out in Pashtunkot district of Faryab province.
According to the statement, a Taliban primary court in Pashtunkot had sentenced the man to one year in prison and 30 lashes. The court said the verdict was implemented after being upheld by the Taliban Supreme Court.
The Taliban have repeatedly carried out public floggings and other corporal punishments in recent years for a range of offenses.
Human rights organizations have consistently condemned such punishments, saying they violate international human rights standards and calling on the Taliban to halt the practice.
