The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban Ministry of Public Health said Afghanistan and Iran have signed an agreement to regulate food, medicines and health-related products.
Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman said in a statement that the agreement was signed during a visit to Iran by Hamdullah Zahid, the Taliban deputy minister for health and medicines.
The deal was signed between Zahid and
Iran’s deputy health minister and the head of the country’s Food and Drug
Organization, Pirmehdi Salehi.
According to Zaman, the agreement includes joint efforts to
combat the smuggling of medicines, improve the import process for health
products, build the capacity of Afghan health workers, encourage investment by
Iranian companies in Afghanistan, digitalize regulatory procedures, and strengthen
quality control of food, medicines and health products.
The agreement also covers technical cooperation between
laboratories in both countries, Zaman said.
He added that the implementation of the agreement is
expected to help prevent the circulation of smuggled and low-quality medicines
and facilitate the supply of quality medicines across Afghanistan.
