The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban-run Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Herat says more than 22 tons of saffron, valued at $30.035 million, were exported to global markets during the first six months of the current year.
State-run National Television reported on Tuesday, Dec. 9, that Europe, the United States, Arab nations, and East and South Asian countries were among the main destinations for Afghan saffron exports.
According to the report, Herat’s total saffron output for the year is estimated at around 40 tons, and the export process is still ongoing.
Saffron is considered one of Afghanistan’s most valuable agricultural products, known internationally for its high quality, distinctive color, and strong aroma. Herat remains the country’s largest saffron-producing region.
