The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Hunger in Afghanistan is worsening at a “deeply alarming pace,” with food insecurity and malnutrition rising sharply across the country, according to the World Food Programme (WFP).
Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera, WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau warned that malnutrition among women and children is expected to surge during the winter months, potentially reaching levels not seen in recent years.
WFP says the combination of economic hardship, limited livelihood opportunities, and harsh winter conditions has left millions struggling to afford sufficient and nutritious food. The agency reiterated it needs sustained international support to prevent further deterioration.
