The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reaffirmed that free and safe movement is a fundamental right for all women and should not be treated as a privilege.
In a statement posted Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, on its Facebook page, UNAMA said, “A woman’s path should not end at her doorstep,” emphasizing that women must be able to participate in society without fear or restrictions.
Since the Taliban returned to power, Afghan women have been denied access to education beyond the sixth grade, as well as participation in work, sports, arts, cultural, economic, and political activities. The Taliban have also prohibited women—especially young women—from traveling long distances or leaving the country without a male guardian or mahram.
