The Kabul Tribune (KT) - The World Health Organization (WHO) says that more than 8.3 million children aged 6 months to 10 years received a dose of the measles vaccine in the second phase of Afghanistan’s nationwide immunization campaign.

According to WHO, the 10-day campaign began on 29 October and covered 17 provinces, achieving 91.7% of the targeted children. The effort aims to reduce the spread of measles and increase vaccination coverage among Afghan children.

Prior to the campaign, only 51% of Afghan children had received the first dose and 37% the second dose of the measles vaccine.

With both phases of the nationwide measles campaign now complete, over 16.6 million children across Afghanistan have been vaccinated against the disease, WHO reports.
