The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistani security forces killed 17 militants in an intelligence-based operation in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations, the army’s media wing,
said the overnight raid from Sept. 26-27 targeted militants described as part
of the group “Fitna al-Khawarij,” which it alleged was backed by India.
“During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively
engaged the location and as a result, 17 terrorists were killed,” the military
said in a statement. Weapons and ammunition were recovered, it added, saying
those killed were involved in “numerous terrorist activities” against security
forces and law enforcement agencies.
A sanitization operation is underway to clear the area of
remaining fighters, according to the statement. “The security forces of
Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,”
it said.
Independent verification of the claims was not immediately possible. Pakistani journalist Tahir Khan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that local sources in Karak district reported one of the dead militants was believed to be a Bangladeshi national. He said a Bangladeshi identity card, foreign currency and other items were recovered, but added that there was “no official confirmation” and no independent verification of a photo circulated locally.
