The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistan’s military said that security forces killed 30 militants linked to this week’s deadly attack on troops in the country’s northwestern Orakzai district, an assault that left 11 soldiers dead, including two officers, Pakistani media reported.
According to a statement from the military’s media wing, the
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted in the
Jamal Maya area of Orakzai following credible intelligence. The statement said
the militants were involved in the October 7 attack and were killed after an
intense exchange of fire.
“The successful operations have avenged the heinous act and
brought the main perpetrators to justice,” the ISPR said, adding that search
operations are continuing to locate any remaining fighters in the region.
The earlier Orakzai incident resulted in the deaths of 11
soldiers, including Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Tariq and Major Tayyab Rahat,
during what officials described as an intelligence-based operation against
militants earlier this week.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the military for what
he called a major success. He said the elimination of 30 militants demonstrated
the professionalism and operational capability of Pakistan’s armed forces,
adding that “the nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the security forces in
the fight to eradicate terrorism from the country.”
Separately, the ISPR said seven more militants were killed
in another operation on October 8 in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan
district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. During that clash, Major Sibtain
Haider, 30, was killed in action while leading his troops, the statement said.
Pakistan’s military has conducted a series of operations in
recent months following a surge in militant violence, much of it concentrated
in the country’s northwest along the border with Afghanistan.
