The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iranian news agency ISNA reported
Wednesday that Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Russian
counterpart Sergey Lavrov held a phone call today to discuss bilateral and
regional issues, including developments affecting Afghanistan and broader
regional security.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the
two ministers welcomed the recent agreement between Kabul and Islamabad,
mediated by Qatari and Turkish officials, establishing a mutual ceasefire and
measures along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. They stressed the importance of
continuing dialogue between the two neighboring countries to resolve disputes
through political and diplomatic channels to ensure regional stability.
Araghchi and Lavrov also exchanged views on developments in
West Asia, including the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and its
consideration by the UN Security Council, as well as matters before the
International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and Iran, which came
into force on October 2, and discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation that
could influence regional security and development, including in Afghanistan.
