The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistani security forces killed eight militants in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military said Friday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)
said troops conducted the operation after receiving reports of militant
presence in the area.
“During the operation, our forces effectively engaged the
militants’ positions. After an intense exchange of fire, eight terrorists were
killed,” the ISPR said, adding that weapons and ammunition were recovered from
the site.
According to the statement, the slain militants were
involved in multiple attacks on security personnel and civilians. A clearance
operation was continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining threats.
The operation comes amid a surge in militant violence across
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the Taliban takeover in neighboring
Afghanistan in 2021.
Earlier Friday, three police officers, including a senior
official, were killed in a twin blast in Hangu district. Police said SP
Operations Asad Zubair and two others died when their vehicle was targeted by
an improvised explosive device while responding to an earlier blast.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban government in
Kabul to prevent militants from using Afghan soil to launch attacks across the
border. The two countries recently engaged in deadly clashes along their
frontier before reaching a ceasefire agreement earlier this month.
Delegations from both sides are expected to meet in
Istanbul, Türkiye, on Oct. 25 for further talks on maintaining the truce.
